About Lake Winola, PA - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Lake Winola is a publicly owned, 185-acre lake in Wyoming County, Pennsylvania. The lake is dissected by a peninsula protruding into the lake from north to south. Lake Winola is maintained by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.  The lake operates a public boat launch, where people launch both motorboats and wooden canoes.  The lake is a hot destination for locals in the warm spring and summer months but you will still see the most devoted boat enthusiasts out well into the colder months.

The Northern Electric trolley line built a line from Factoryville to Lake Winola in May, 1908. Following this, and in so doing, acquired 50 acres of lakefront property.  There, a dance pavilion and a small amusement park attracted summer tourists and residents to take boat rides on the lake in the beautiful months of June, July and August.  At that time, these were not privately owned water crafts. The 45 cent tours were operated on a small steamboat and took you one way – from Scranton to Lake Winola.

The trolley line functioned until the fall of 1930, when it was supplanted by bus service. With that, the attractions soon faded.  However, the lake’s role as an important Pennsylvania vacation and recreation spot and had already been set in stone. One notable person who vacationed often at Lake Winola was Hillary Rodham Clinton who spent summers there as a child and owned lakefront property there until 2013.  It is not just any lake, but it has become a local landmark and attraction where people can gather to celebrate in the beauty of Pennsylvania in bloom.  Of course, it is most busy during the summer, but locals enjoy a quiet lakeside life for ¾ of the year.  It’s sort of the best of both worlds in that regard.  Lake Winola is a wonderful family friendly spot to let loose, swim, laugh and play.
